CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Renovation work has been slow due to the removal of asbestos in the 50 plus year old structure the former home of the First Community Credit Union. Once the work is completed it will the new home for City County Health offices in Valley City.

City County Health spokeswoman Paula Thomsen told the Barnes County board of commissioners on February 17 that the moving in date has been pushed back to late April or May.

Reconstruction bids on the renovation were lower but the cost of asbestos removal is much higher and causing a delay with the project.

In other news, the Barnes County Commissioners had a lengthy discussion on office space options once City/County Health moves out of the courthouse later this year.

Commissioner Rodger Berntson favors moving the Sheriff’s office back in the courthouse once City/County Health move into their new building. Berntson believes the move would enhance security concerns inside the courthouse.

Commission president Cindy Schwehr said more lengthy discussion will be needed to sort out all of the options available within the limited spaces of the courthouse.
