Earl “Hook” Kramer, age 81, of Rogers, ND, died Monday, February 16th at his residence in Rogers, ND.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 20th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the church.  Interment will be in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery near Mandan, ND.

Earl Douglas Kramer, the son of Matthew and Gladys (Berger) Kramer, was born in a house in on the family farm on June 2, 1933 in Hobart Township of Barnes County.  Earl attended Hobart Township School, College High in Valley City and Valley City High School until 8th grade.  Earl then hitch hiked to Big Ben, the Garrison Dam and finally Silver City where he got a job clearing brush.  Earl later returned to Valley City and on July 26, 1950 he enlisted in the US Army.  His boot camp was at Fort Ord in California where he went to Engineering school.  He later received additional training at Fort Belvoir, VA.  Earl then went to Korea where he spent 13 months on the front lines.  He got malaria twice while in Korea.  He received the Bronze Star for Valor for his service.  Earl then was sent to Camp Roberts as a Staff Sergeant to train recruits.  He volunteered to go to Germany and spent 11 months stationed at the Second Armor Division, still known as Hell on Wheels.  In 1953, he returned to the United States and was discharged on July 25, 1953.  After his discharge, he worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department.  On November 19, 1954 he married Lillian Koch in Valley City.  Earl then worked for Red Owl as an Assistant Manager for four years.  The couple then moved to Oregon for three months and returned to Valley City.  Earl then worked for Piggly Wiggly for one year as a Produce Manager.  He then worked for Schultz Motors selling cars for two years.  He then moved to Jamestown, ND where he worked for James River Motors, now Wilhelm Chevrolet, Buick GMC.  In 1979 he started his own business, A&K Tool and Bolt Company which he operated until 1995.  On December 31, 1990 he married Treonne Jewett.  He retired in 2005.  Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing and visiting with people.  Earl was a member of numerous Veteran’s and Civic Organizations.

Earl is survived by his three sons, Rick (Kathy) Kramer, Prineville, OR, Randy (Patsy) Kramer, Buchanan, ND and Dean Kramer, Jamestown, ND; step-children, Shelly Sizer, Bismarck, ND and Robbie Jewett, Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Tyson (Melissa) Kramer, Mapleton, ND, Jarvis (Sarah) Kramer, Menoken, ND, Krissy (Mark) Bennion, Rexburg, ID, Jenny Rios, Seattle, WA and Ashley Mooridian, Valley City, ND; two sisters, Dorothy (Warren) Moody, Depoe Bay, OR and Sandra (Jerry) South, Eugene, OR; four brothers, James Kramer, Portland, OR, Harold Kramer, Otis, OR, Dennis (April) Kramer, Gresham, OR and Lawrence (Maggie) Kramer, Reno, ND; one brother-in-law, Scotty Robinson, Portland, OR.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife Treonne, his parents and three sisters, Betty Farmer, Donna Linde and Joyce Robinson.
