Kania, age 85, of Litchville, ND died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Thursday, February 19, 2015 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Msgr. Dennis Skonseng, celebrant.  Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM Wednesday at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM.  Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery at Valley City later in the spring.

Orval Kania was born Dec. 24, 1929 at Courtenay, ND the son of Anton and Elsie (Voigt) Kania.  Orval’s family moved to a farm about 8 miles north of Verona, ND in 1947.  When Anton died in 1952, Orval and his brother Floyd, for a time,  helped Mrs. Kania farm the land.  Orval farmed there until 1970 when his mother had an auction and then rented the farm.  Orval moved with his mother to Valley City and then took a job building grain elevators for Hogenson Construction.  Following his retirement Orval later moved to Litchville, ND.  He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City.

Orval is survived by a sister, Elsie Cox, Berlin, ND, a brother, Lawrence, Dewey, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and 5 brothers.
