February 14, 2015 Elizabeth L. (Betty) Kludt departed this world to be in the everlasting peace of God’s loving arms. She is a former resident of Edgeley, ND and had been recently living in Jupiter, FL.
Betty was born on February 14, 1930 in Jamestown, ND to August and Irma (Luedtke) Hart. After graduating from Jamestown High School in 1948, she earned her degree in History from Jamestown College in 1952. Following graduation she taught high school in McClusky and Mandan, ND. While teaching in McClusky she met her future husband, Wallace Kludt. The happy couple was married on June 30th, 1957 in Jamestown. They briefly lived in Mandan before moving to Edgeley where they owned and operated the Coast-To-Coast Hardware store for many years.
Betty very much enjoyed small town life and was active in both her community and her church. She continued to teach on a part-time substitute basis at Edgeley High School while raising her family.
Following the death of her husband in 1987, Betty continued to operate the Coast-To-Coast store as sole proprietor. In 1991 she sold the hardware store and retired permanently.
Betty enjoyed retirement immensely while keeping busy with her various activities. Among her many interests were reading, working crossword puzzles, working in her yard, playing Scrabble, having coffee with her friends, traveling and visiting her 2 sons.
Betty was blessed with the gift of instantly making new friends. Her sharp wit and gentle humor helped her form many different circles of friends wherever she went.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Allen, and her husband.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Scott (Mesquite, Texas) and Paul (West Palm Beach, Florida). She also leaves behind many loving friends and many happy memories.
