N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay boys hockey team played its regular season finale on Thursday night in the Capitol City versus Bismarck High, and the defending state champs picked up a 6-0 victory.
The Demons nailed down the number one seed for the West Region Tournament next week, which will be held on Bismarck’s home ice at the VFW Sports Center.
Bismarck scored three goals in the first and added three more in the third. The Demons outshot the Jays 46-20. Blue Jay goalie Brian Wenzel kicked out 43 shots on the night. Jamestown had some chances to light the lamp, but went 0-7 on the power play, including 0-2 on a couple of 5-3 advantages. “There were multiple opportunities for us to score tonight, and we didn’t do it” said head coach Matt Stockert.
Jamestown ends the regular season with a 10-11 record and finished 9-7 in WDA play. Next up is the West Region Tournament on February 19th, 20th and 21st in Bismarck. The Blue Jays are the #4 seed, and will face Mandan, the #5 seed, in the opening round on Thursday the 19th at 1:30 pm. Coverage with Jason Metko will be on ESPN Jamestown AM 1400 and 97.1 FM.
Mandan defeated Jamestown two out of three games during the season, but the Jays knocked off the Braves this past Tuesday at Wilson Arena 3-1. Jamestown needs two wins in the tourney to qualify for state in Fargo on February 26th, 27th and 28th at Scheels Arena.
