(NewsDakota.com) The Valley City State Vikings women’s and men’s teams traveled west on Wednesday night for a North Star Athletic Association match up with Dickinson State.  In the women’s game the Vikings just edged out the Bluehawks 57-55. In the men’s game Dickinson made up for their January loss to the Vikings with 66-47 win here in February. 

Women’s: Valley City State 57 Dickinson State 55

The Vikings and Bluehawks traded leads 18 times but the largest advantage either team could create was five points. In the end it may have been the free-throw shooting of Dickinson State that did them in. As a team, the Bluehawks hit just 42 percent of their shots at the line.

The Vikings women were led on the score sheet by Steph Pederson and Sadiqah Jihads 10 points. The Bluehawks were led by Ashley Bentz and Hailee Farstveet’s 15 points. 

The win advances the Vikings to 18-7 overall. VCSU is currently tied with Jamestown at 6-1 in NSAA play.

Men: Valley City State 47 Dickinson State 66

After dropping their first meeting to the Vikings back on January 31st, the Bluehawks were out for revenge on Wednesday night. With help from forward Connor Donaldson who shot 8-for-12 from behind the three point line and knocked down a game high 32 points, the Hawks would get it.

The Vikings struggled to make baskets shooting just 31 percent from the field. Valley’s leading scorer was Jayden Ferguson who tallied 13 points. Mac Kroeplin scored 12 points in the loss. 

The Vikings loss drops them to 11-15 overall with a 1-6 record in the North Star. The Vikings return to the court this weekend when they travel to Dakota State University for a match up with the Trojans. The games can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting with the women’s game at 4:00pm.
