(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School boys basketball team picked up their 11th win of the season, after defeating the South Border Mustangs 70-46 on Thursday night.
The Tornadoes found their momentum in the second quarter, starting out on a 10-0 run to pad the lead in which the Mustangs, despite having 6’6 forward Hunter Pinke, could not find a way to answer. A seven point lead at intermission turned into 18 after three, and the writing was on the wall for the visitors from District 6, who fell to 7-9 this season. Pinke had a team high 24 points.
Oakes (11-5) had four players in double figures in the victory to give them their second win in a row: Carter Zetocha (22), Ethan Zetocha (17), Bryce Meehl (12) and Tristan Meyer (11).
Oakes will host Carrington in the final Class B District 5 regular season game for both teams on Monday, February 16. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM, KDAK-AM 1600 and NewsDakota.com will start at 6:45 p.m., with tip at 7 p.m. from Oakes.
