N.D. – Foster County hopes to mend old wounds following the sudden resignation of six county officials late last year.
Some Foster County residents still have questions about what caused or led to the resignations in December of 2014.
A Foster Country resident believes part of the problem started several years ago when commissioners decided to build a new shop for county equipment on land north of the courthouse.
Foster County State’s Attorney Paul Murphy had this response about the current situation in Foster County.
A couple of weeks after the November 2014 general election, Foster County Sheriff Mike Tufte, Deputy Sheriff Danielle Rosewaren, Clerk of District Court Tamara Becker, Deputy Clerk of Court Jenna Weisenburger, County Auditor Teresa Risovi and Foster County Commissioner Leslie Gregor resigned.
Gregor had two years left on a commission term and Tufte had just been re-elected to a full four year term. Risovi was voted out of office after serving as the county auditor for only a few months.
Risovi was appointed to the position after former Foster County Auditor Rodger Schlotman resigned following a charge of Misapplication of Entrusted Property and Tampering with Public Records back in November of 2013. Scholtman entered a plea of not guilty and is facing 3 counts of Misapplication of Entrusted Property, 2 counts of Tampering with Public Records and 2 counts of Criminal Conspiracy according to court documents.
Charges of Misapplication of Entrusted Property and Tampering with Public Records were dropped against James Carr. But he still faces a charge of criminal conspiracy according to court documents. Carr entered a plea of not guilty.
On February 9, District Judge Daniel Narum denied a motion by the prosecutor for a Change of Venue for a future trial.
