CITY (VCSU) – The Valley City State University women’s basketball team is partnering with Mayville State University to raise money in a head-to-head challenge in support of cancer research.

“Coins for a Cure” is a pocket change fundraising event where the two women’s basketball teams will compete against each other to raise the most money in loose change prior to their Feb. 18 basketball game in Valley City.

All proceeds from “Coins for a Cure” will be donated to a local chapter of the American Cancer Society. The teams will start collecting coins Wednesday, Feb. 11, up until Feb. 18, when the Vikings host the Comets for a 5:30 p.m. game at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.

VCSU women’s basketball is encouraging all students, faculty, staff, and fans to donate some of their loose change – or accumulated jars at home – to this cause. The teams are competing to see who can raise the most money, but in the end it is a win-win for everyone as all money will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Ask a Viking women’s basketball player how you can help, drop off your coins at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse, or keep an eye out for a donation ball on campus near you.

If you would like a donation ball brought to your business, contact head coach Jill Devries at 845-7164 or jill.devries@vcsu.edu.
