(NewsDakota.com) It was a good Saturday for Oakes High School athletics.

The Tornado wrestlers took second place honors at the 2015 Class B Region 1 Duel Tournament, earning a ticket to the State Duel Tournament in Fargo February 19-21. Oakes, who was the number two seed entering the tournament defeated Kindred in the opening round 58-24, then held off Lisbon 33-30. The Tornadoes lost the Championship match to Napoleon 45-27.

Oakes will host the Class B Region I Individual Tournament on Saturday, February 14. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com will starts at 9:45 a.m.

Oakes’ girls basketball team ended the 2014-15 regular season with a 33-31 win at Lisbon Saturday. The Tornadoes had a team high 11 points from Bella Hansen, and have finished the year with a 4-15 mark, and 2-4 in Class B District 5.

As the number five seed, Oakes will take on the number four seeded Rebels of Edgeley-Kulm/Montpelier in the opening round of the 2015 Class B District 5 Tournament on Friday, February 13 at the Jamestown Civic Center.
