Witzig, 75, of Jamestown, ND, passed away from a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was at home with his family by his side and lost his battle in the early hours of Saturday, January 24, 2015.
Duane was born on January 31, 1939, in Jamestown, the son of Glen and Monica (Dingle) Witzig. His family moved from Adrian, ND when he was 3 years old to Jamestown. Duane graduated from Jamestown High School in 1957. He attended Jamestown College and graduated from Wahpeton State School of Science as a Civil Engineer. He married Diane Kvislen on July 2, 1965 at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown. They lived in Nevada from 1967 to 1975 and then returned to Jamestown where he worked for Everett’s Construction for over 30 years, then for Mayo Construction of Cavalier, ND until he retired in 2005.
Duane and Diane enjoyed their life on their farm west of Jamestown, especially in the spring and fall watching their horses, dogs, and cows. He was a talented woodcarver and artist and enjoyed math.
Duane is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diane Witzig of Jamestown; son, Scott (Laurie) Witzig, Jamestown; daughter, Monica (Scott) Moore, Jamestown; son, Dave Witzig, Jamestown; brother-in-law, Roger Thompson, Jamestown; and grandchildren, Greg, Leeah, Megan, Scottie, Troy, and Zach; and great-grandchildren, Paisley and Weston.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sue Ellen; and sister, Shirley Thompson.
Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown.
Visitation: None scheduled. Arrangements are in the care of Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church, Jamestown.
Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
