Gruman, age 95, of Valley City, ND, formerly of Fingal, ND, died Friday, January 23rd at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 29th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fingal, ND. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the church. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Cemetery, Fingal, ND.
Agnes Thersia Morth, the daughter of John and Anna (Millner) Morth, was born August 25, 1919 in Fingal, ND. Agnes was the second of nine children. Agnes grew up and attended school in Fingal and graduated from Fingal High School in 1937. After receiving her education, she worked for various farms during thrashing season and also cut meat at the Fingal Meat Market. Agnes married Alfred Gruman on May 25, 1942. The couple made their home west of Fingal where Agnes always had a huge garden. She grew many types of vegetables, strawberries and raspberries which she shared with her many neighbors. Agnes also wrote area news for 40 years for the Times Record, Litchville Bulletin and the Enderlin Independent. She also enjoyed crocheting in her free time. Agnes and Alfred moved into Fingal in 1982. Alfred died in 1991. Agnes became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City in 2007. She enjoyed visiting with people and all of activities that the Sheyenne Care Center had to offer. Agnes was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Holy Trinity Christian Mothers.
Agnes is survived by her three sons, Frederich (Roselie) Gruman, Valley City, ND, David (Donna) Gruman, Fingal, ND and Robert (Mary) Gruman, Lucca, ND; three sisters, Lucille Sherman, Casselton, ND, Sister Celine Marie, SMP, Valley City, ND and Cele Ann Tomlins, Churubusco, IN; one brother, John Morth, Menasha, WI; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her parents and her sisters Sister Mary Margaret, Anne Schackel, Mary Ann Siemieniewski, Maggie Peterson and Barbara Weber.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations made to Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery or the Pastoral Care Department of the Sheyenne Care Center.
