Carpenter, 80, of Dickey, ND, died on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Sanford in Bismarck, ND.

Joy Elaine Knudson was born on February 3, 1934, in Berlin, ND, the daughter of Knute and Grace (Hoehne) Knudson. She attended school in Adrian and graduated from Dickey High School. Joy and Alan Carpenter were married on June 30, 1951 and they made their home on a farm in Dickey where their home has been since. Joy took great pride and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events. She also enjoyed yard work, bowling, putting together puzzles, working crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, dancing, golfing, and playing cards–especially pinochle. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dickey.

Joy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alan Carpenter, Dickey; son, Bradley (Darla) Carpenter, Dickey; daughter, Tracy (Ron) Rode, Dickey; four grandchildren, Brent Carpenter, Isaac VanEnk, Jonas (Nicole) VanEnk, and Randi VanEnk; three great grandchildren, Chloe Carpenter, Kailey and Jaxson VanEnk; two brothers, Darwin (Diane) Knudson and Gary (Karen) Knudson; sister-in-law, Elaine Knudson; and three sisters-in-law, Gloria Carpenter, Priscilla Carpenter, and Audrey (Joe) Baumgartner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Lana; two brothers, Tunny and Jack; and three sisters, June, Bea, and Karen.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Dickey, with Pastor Rodney Ulmer officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Interment: Dickey Cemetery, Dickey, ND.
