N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Mandan Braves scored three power play goals on Tuesday night and knocked off the Blue Jays in West Region boys hockey 4-1 at All Seasons Arena.

Jamestown out shot the Braves 34-23, but Sophomore Goalie Sawyer Schmidt stood tall in the net, and stymied the Jays all night long, including stopping Austin Rene on a penalty shot.

Nick Schaack had Jamestown’s only goal as he scored his 3rd of the season in Period #2 and that sliced the Braves lead in half at 2-1.

A 5 minute Major penalty was whistled on the Jays in the third period for boarding, and that led to a couple of insurance goals for Mandan. “Their Goalie was lights out tonight.” Said head coach Matt Stockert “We had opportunities, but couldn’t cash in.”

Jamestown slips to 5-6 over-all and 5-4 in the West.

Next up is a home game with Minot on Friday night at Wilson Arena. Drop of the puck is set for 7:30 pm. You can catch the action on 103.1 the Raven.

The Jays will be raising money Friday for colon cancer, as the night has been labeled “white out night.” Fans can purchase white t-shirts at the rink, and are encouraged to wear them at the game. Jamestown will also wear an alternate jersey vs the Magicians, and those jerseys will be auctioned off to fans. All money raised will be donated to colon cancer awareness.
