Petersen, 92, Bismarck, ND, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 7, 2015 at Missouri Slope Care Center, Bismarck.

Alice Aneta Klebaum Petersen, the youngest of 10 children, was born to Edward and Maria (Eckerdt) Klebaum on May 14, 1922 at Brumbaugh, North Dakota. Her early years were spent on the family farm located about 3 miles south of Rocklake, ND. She attended school in Brumbaugh through 5th grade, after which she transferred to Rocklake Public School graduating in 1940. Several harsh winters were spent ‘boarding’ with families in town. Alice remained on the family farm after graduation and the death of her mother, tending the home and garden, and preparing meals for the hired farm workers. She became a very talented cook, baker, and seamstress. She always believed that “a job worth doing was worth doing well” and she lived by that belief. Alice met the love of her life – Gordon R. Petersen – at a dance in Clyde where he ‘rescued’ her and 4 other stranded damsels! They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egeland on June 5, 1946, and began married life on a farm near Clyde. In 1949, they moved to a farm just west of Rock Lake where they raised livestock and grain until 1961. After leaving the farm, they moved into Rocklake and undertook the huge project of building a new home for their family. At this time, Alice began her long career as Office Manager at the Rock Lake Farmers Union Oil Company, from which she retired in 1986. After retiring, Gordy and Alice became avid campers and spent much time at area lakes and parks. Highlighting their retirement years were the bus tours they took traveling to many parts of the US and making new friends. Alice and Gordy lived in their ‘new’ home until 2005 when they moved to Bismarck to be closer to family. Over the years, Alice was involved with the All Nations Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Homemakers, Senior Citizen’s Group, and several Towner County organizations.

Alice will be deeply missed by her 3 daughters – Mary (Terrance) Henriksen of Sun City West, AZ, Carol Petersen of Bismarck, and Lois (John) Kelley of Florence, CO; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Nicole, all nine of her siblings and their spouses as well as her beloved husband Gordon who died May 11, 2014.
