(NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown girls basketball team has been searching for their first win of the season and it finally came on Tuesday night at Jerry Meyer Arena. The Firebirds of Devils Lake entered with a perfect 6-0 record and with wins over Minot and Turtle Mountain, two teams that blew out the Jays. But it was Jamestown who emerged with a 60-52 when the smoke cleared.

The Jamestown boys were also able to get a victory as they did all they could down the stretch to let Devils Lake hang around, but eventually won 71-68.

In the first half of the girls game the teams combined to shoot 10-59 from the field which is a scalding 16.9%. Jamestown entered the break leading 16-13. The Jays put up 44 second-half points to secure their first win. Emily Reiten lead three Jays in double figures with 13.

Noah Wanzek lead the Jamestown boys with 22 points in a game that was up-and-down the floor. Devils Lake’s Zach Dahlen poured in 27 to lead all scorers.

Jamestown took two questionable late three-pointers and committed a crucial foul on a three-point shot that allowed Devils Lake to stay within one possession in the final minute.

The Jays return to action on Friday at home against Dickinson.
