CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) There was more than .6 million dollars in new construction and renovation building permits last year in Valley City. Building Inspector Dave Andersen says permits increased by 13.6 percent in 2014 compared to the previous year. He says .5 million was for commercial building permits, .6 million in housing permits and another 0,000 in construction renovation permits.
Andersen expects the number of new home and commercial construction building permits to climb higher this year. One example is the proposed construction of the $16 million dollar Wellness Center in Valley City.
In other city news the commission approved of a $1,000 salary increase for commission members to reach $9,000 dollars per year compared to the previous annual salary of $8,000. On a 3 to one vote Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson voted against the increase. Commissioner Madeline Luke was not present the January 6 meeting.
And the commission approved a resolution to have a 2 year license fee for cats and dogs that would cost $15. The ordinance also establishes a leash law for dogs and cats. Details of the new city ordinance will be available on the city website.
