ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Junior Walker Carr of Carrington faced five different wrestlers from four different states last Friday and Saturday at the 9th Annual Rumble on the Red at the FargoDome and came out with a championship at the 145 pound weight class.  Last year Carr placed fourth and his team finished in 22nd place.  This year, the Cardinals finished tenth out of 62 teams with 111 points, helped by Carr who scored 34 points alone.  

Scott West High School of Minnesota won the tourney with 170.5 points, followed by Sydney, Montana with 162 and in third was Coon Rapids, Minnesota with 156.  The only other team to place in the top 10 from North Dakota was Class A West Fargo with 151 points finishing in fourth place.  Carr’s teammates and classmates, Billy Holtan at 152 pounds and Riley Lura at 182 pounds, also placed for Carrington.  Holtan in eighth place and Lura in third place.

Carr has placed in the last three State Wrestling Tourneys, fourth in 2012, Champion in 2013 and runner-up last year.  Pictures below are from this years Rumble on the Red, courtesy Paul Hendrickson.

Next up for the Cardinals wrestling team will be tonight (Jan. 6) for a makeup dual with Oakes.  Due to bad weather on November 25th, 2014, the dual meet was moved to tonight at Oakes.  Coverage can be heard on AM 1220 KDDR and newsdakota.com starting about 6:30pm.
