CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Saturday night the geographic rivals met in their annual post-Christmas non-conference game. Each school left the Hi-Liner Activity Center with a victory as the Valley City girls and Jamestown boys picked up a win in the doubleheader.
Valley City 53, Jamestown 45
Emily Reiten started the game for Jamestown with a bang. The Jays sophomore knocked down four triples in the first 3:30 of the game and added a free throw for 14 of her team-high 16 in the early going.
Valley City too control of the game down the stretch as the Jays shot just 20% in the game. Clarissa Olson and Brenna Dieterle had big second-halves. Olson lead all scorers with 17 and Deiterle added 14. All but six of those points came in the second half.
Jamestown 55, Valley City 51
Nick Fuchs’ scored from the right block on a turn-around hook shot to put the Jays in-front with 40 seconds to go and he added a free throw finishing off a three-point play.
On the preceding trip down the floor, Jared Lentz passed on a lay-up trying to get a three and the Hi-Liners eventually turned it over.
Lentz had 19 to pace Hi-Liners and Fuchs with 19 for the Jays.
Both teams are back to action on Tuesday.
