(NewsDakota.com)  The final day of the three day Stutsman County Girls Basketball Tourney concluded last Saturday at the Civic Center.  Here are the results:

7th place – Midkota/Kensal over Warwick  56-53 OT

The Mustangs of Midkota/Kensal get their first victory of the year as they beat the Lady Warriors in the first game last Saturday.  MK led by eight points at the halftime break, but five second half three-pointers, three by Madison Leaf and one apiece for Ava Robertson and Mysti Gourd, would help tie the score at the end of regulation at 49.  MK’s Brooke Ronningen hit a three pointer and Victoria Vollmer and Joslyn Hoyt each had a field goal to secure the Mustangs victory in overtime.  MK is now (1-4), Warwick is (1-5).   

5th place – South Border over Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier  50-48

The Rebels had a 3 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but Sophomore Morgan Schnabel would score five points in the fourth quarter along with good free-throw shooting down the stretch from her teammates helped the Rebels win the consolation championship.  Schnabel ended with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Junior Olivia Anderson had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Rebels of EKM.  SB is 5-1 overall, EKM is 1-3 overall.    

3rd place – Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter over Ellendale  51-47

For the first time in five years, the Imperials didn’t make a championship appearance at the Stutsman County Tourney.  The Imperials trailed 27-10 late in the second quarter, but Callie Thompson sparked the comeback off the bench with 11 points.  N-GS was led by Shania Gross with 15 points, six steals, & five rebounds and teammate Emily Christofferson led the Imperials with eight rebounds & also added seven points.  Ellendale was led by Isabell Wedell’s game high 16 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.  Alyssa Nishek added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals.  Ellendale had 24 turnovers (17 second half).  N-GS is now 4-2 on the season, while Ellendale drops to 1-4.

Championship – Carrington over Medina/Pingree-Buchanan  54-45

The Cardinals had four girls score in double figures led by Maara Nelson’s 14 points.  Ann Endres sparked Carrington’s offense with 11 points off the bench which included three 3-pointers.  Bailey Retzlaff and Lynzee Hagemeister also added 10 points each in the victory. Nelson finished the game with 10 rebounds (game high) and four steals.  M-P-B was paced by Jaycee Moldenhauer with a game high 21 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.  Jordan Thomas added eight points, three steals and a team high nine rebounds for the Thunder. Carrington improved there season record to 5-0, while M-P-B dropped to 4-2.
