CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Hi-Liners basketball teams split their opener on Tuesday night with Fargor North. The girls team held off the Spartans for a 74-63 win. The Hi-Liner boys opened the year in a hard fought 65-53 loss to North.
Girls: Valley City 74 Fargo North 63
Led by senior forward Clair Olson who tallied 23 points before the end of the first half, the Hi-Liners were able to keep the Spartans at bay. Olson would finish the game with a game high 28 points before the final buzzer sounded.
In their second game of the season, Fargo North had four players finish in double digits. Tori Reinholz had a team high 14 points for the Spartans.
Boys: Valley City 53 Fargo North 65
The Hi-Liners put up a brilliant fight but were unable to hold on for the win. After a three point play from Dalton Ondracek the Valley took a one point lead into the halftime break. However, when the second half started the Spartans would take back the lead on the back of Simon Sem who tallied a game high 23 points. Norths constant drive to the lane earned them 33 free throws in the game where they would pick up 20 points.
In the loss, the Hi-Liners were led by Nate Rodriguez who had 15 points in the match up. Jared Lentz and Ian Schweitzer each had 11 in the game.
Both the boys and girls team return to the court on Saturday at Fargo Davies. Both games can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 3:45pm.
