CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) As the saying goes, “There’s no place like home,” and for the Valley City State basketball teams it couldn’t be more true as the men and women picked up their second sweep of the week against Johnson and Wales University. The women’s 88-64 victory gives them a perfect record this year at W.E. Osomon Field house, while the men advanced to 5-1 inside the Bubble with a 73-45 win over the Wildcats.

Women: VCSU 88 Johnson and Wales 64

With four players finishing in double digit points, VCSU cruised past the Wildcats.

Valley City forward Sierra Even picked up her second straight double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Under the basket Allyson Suhr sent 14 points off the glass, while Courtney Dixon added another 11 with the advantage of an outside game.  At the point, Valley City’s Sadiqah Jihad saw the court as well as anyone dishing out a game high seven assists while scoring 16 points and battling for six rebounds.

The Wildcats were led on the score sheet by Mariah Trinh’s 11 points and Kristen Ward who knocked down 11 of her 13 points at the free throw line.

The Vikings win advances them to 5-4 on the regular season.

Men: VCSU 73 Johnson and Wales 45

Mac Kroeplin posted the first six points for the Vikings. Turns out they didn’t need much more than that in the first half as both teams shot just over 25% from the field. After a half of play the Vikings took a 22-13 lead into the break. In the second half, the Vikings found their stride working the ball around the perimeter and finding freshmen Jayden Ferguson for 12 of his game high 23 points. Mac Kroeplin  was the only other Viking to break double digits posting 14 points and 8 rebounds.

In a strong defensive effort, the Vikings held Johnson and Wales to just 45 points in the game. Preston Rayburn had a majority of those with a team high 18 points.

The win advance Valley City to 5-6 on the season. Both the Men’s and the Women’s team host Crown College on Monday evening. You can hear both games starting at 5:15pm on 1490 KOVC.
