N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker is dead. He died at his home Tuesday evening. He disclosed in late August that he had kidney cancer. 

He was admitted to the hospital last week after suffering an adverse reaction to chemotherapy. Deputy Mayor Tim Mahoney was close to the mayor.

Mahoney days Walaker had been in good spirits shortly before his death and talked about returning to City Hall later this week. 

He was elected to a third term in June. Funeral arrangements are pending.  Walaker was 73.
