CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City teachers expressed their concern about the district’s financial situation recently. The teachers asked Superintendent Dean Koppelman about the current status as he visited with them in the classroom.

In April a number of cuts were made in the district, by July some of those were reinstated as the financial picture improved. The board unanimously approved a pay increase of 3 to 5 percent for school district administrators in July. Koppelman told the school board that the district’s balance and interim fund are in good shape at $2.5 million.

A good portion of the school districts funding is now tied to the states per pupil funding formula, Koppelman says, this year, enrollment is steady at 1,102 students.

Koppelman says he and the business manager are watching the budget closely and are in constant contact with the Barnes County Auditor’s office monitoring the amount of monies the school district collects on a monthly basis.
