N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Al Lindberg of Jamestown was recently inducted into the North Dakota State Fair Association Hall of Fame during the State Fair convention in Bismarck. And he didn’t even know about it.
“I didn’t have a clue. I’ve been involved with the local for for thirty some years and was North Dakota Fairman of the Year in 1993.” Lindberg stated.
Lindberg had been president of the Stutsman County Fair Board for the past 25 years and had recently stepped down, handing the presidency over to Mike Williams. In order for someone to get inducted into the Hall of Fame, a process needs to take place.
“You have to send in nominations. The Association reviews them and awards either one or two every other year with an induction.” Lindberg explained.
Lindberg had been attending the banquet by himself as his wife was unable to attend.
“My wife was unable to be there because she was in Sioux Falls. I had planned to go home Saturday before the banquet, but they insisted I stay. My wife told me she wanted to come, so I told her I’d stay.” Linberg said.
It came as a surprise when he was called up and inducted into the Hall of Fame. His children even made a surprise appearance.
“Even my kids in college made the journey up there to watch. It definitely was an amazing experience.”
