S.D. (NewsDakota.com) #15 Valley City State’s air assault one upped the ground game of Presentation College as the Vikings held off the Saints for a 36-14 win to claim sole possession of the North Star Athletic Association Championship.

Vikings quarterback Kurtis Wall broke the regular season touchdown passing record with four touchdowns in the first half brining his season total to 35 and surpassing the previous record of 31 set by Jason Beilke in 2008.

Walls  connected with DeJhon Edwards to get the Vikings on the board first with a 38 yard touchdown pass. Later in half, Antoine Griffin,  Demondre Boler, and Zach Johnson all picked up TD receptions of there own. Walls finished the first half with 313 yard through the air. Vikings kicker Thomas Cortes added a 26 yard field goal in the first half.

The Saints run game handed the Vikings a scare at end of the first quarter when Hayden Zenner cut a 13 point VCSU lead to just 6 on a 27 yard touchdown run. Stephen Braswell threw his only touchdown pass for the Saints at the end of the first half when he found Anthony Bricker open in the corner of the end zone from 11 yards out.

The second half of the game belonged to the defense. Neither side was able to score until the final second of the game when Andre Peppers returned an interception from end zone to end zone to conclude the game.  Nick McBeain led the Vikings defense with 16 tackles and an interception.  Juwan Pugh had 11 tackles for the Vikings

On the offensive side of The ball,  Walls finished with 384 passing yards. Griffin had 9 receptions for 179 yards in the win. 

The win should put Valley City into the NAIA national playoffs.  The 16 team field will be announced on Sunday November 16th.
