CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) This is Walk to School Day, as students across North Dakota and the nation are being encouraged to “get active” as they get to class. Among those taking part in today’s activities is Jefferson Elementary School in Valley City, where Principal Troy Miller says many in the community get involved in helping the youngsters walk to school safely.

Miller says while today’s event is a great starter, the goal is to get more kids walking or biking to school on a regular basis and provide them with safe ways to do that. He points out that it isn’t just a matter of health, but of academics.

Bismarck and Grand Forks also held Walk to School Day events. Below are a few photos of Washington students taken by Steve Urness.
