N.D. (NewsDakota.com) On a chilly high school football night, the Valley City Hi-Liners started fast and never slowed down in a 39-13 win over the Kindred Vikings.
The win advances Valley City to 4-2 on the season with a 2-2 East Region record. The Vikings fall to 1-5 on the year with a conference mark of 1-3.
After missing last weeks game with Maple Valley/Enderlin, John Halgrimson returned to the field and made an immediate impact for the Hi-Liners. Just four minutes into the game the senior running back would lead Valley into the endzone on a 12 yard run. He would follow it up with the two point conversion.
The Vikings opening drive then made quick progress, taking the ball across midfield in just two plays. On the third play, Valley City’s Eric Milender stepped in front of a Fletcher Andel pass to Zack Cossette picking it off and bringing the Hi-Liners offense back onto the field. It wouldn’t take them long to find the endzone for the second time. This time Jared Lentz led the charge finding tight end Ben Baasch on a 5 yard touchdown pass.
Lentz would score once more in the first half rushing the ball in from one yard out with just 39 seconds in the period.
The Vikings first score came early in the second half when Tyson Tallakson scored on a two yard run. Kindreds momentum change would last just over four minutes, as Lentz quited the home crowd with his second touchdown pass of the evening, this time to Lucas Jury.
Each team would score once more before the end of the game. The Hi-Liners on a 25 yard run from Nate Rodriguez. Kindred scored on a soiled defensive effort from Austin Collins who returned a Hi-Liner fumble 45 yards to the house.
Valley City returns home next weekend when they host Lisbon Broncos for homecoming. The game can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 6:30pm.
