Richman, age 92, of Tower City, ND died Oct. 1, 2014 at his farm residence near Tower City.  Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 AM Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tower City, ND with Rev. Christopher Brademeyer officiating.  Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM Sunday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service beginning at 7PM.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City, ND.

John Martin Richman was born September 26, 1922 in Tower City, ND the son of William and Dorothy (Bruns) Richman.  He grew up and received his education there.  On September 24, 1947 he married Evelyn Rolfstad at Sydney, MT.  The couple moved to Williston, ND in 1949 and later moved to Tower City in 1970. Evelyn died in 2001 and he continued make his home on the farm south of Tower City.

John was a charter member of the ND Draft Horse Association and was instrumental in organizing the ND State Draft Horse Pulling Contest as well as working with the North Dakota Winter Show in promoting draft horse events.  He enjoyed driving his Belgian horses in parades and other community events.  In the winter he gave sled rides to the area youths.  He also volunteered his time and horses to pull at funerals.  Because of his love for his horses the North Dakota Draft Horse Association Members will be considered Honorary Pallbearers.

John leaves to mourn his passing his five children: Linda Scott, Williston, ND, Jocelyn (Herb) Grandbois, Omaha, NE, David Richman, Tower City, ND, Kathleen (Bill) Woodward, Tower City, ND, and Andrew Richman, Tower City, ND; 6 grandchildren: Darrell and Dwayne Scott, Kristie Stredwick, and Grant, Jeremy, and Ryan Grandbois; 8 great grandchildren: Kristopher, Kasidi, and Austin Scott, Alex, Joshua, Jesalynn, Jaron, and Jayleigh Grandbois; and a sister Darlene Iverson, Mound, MN.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, a son, Howard John Richman, a granddaughter, Kimberly Scott, his parents, 3 brothers, William, Werner, and George, and 2 sisters, Esther and Erma.
