N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Still standing after 120 years, the Stutsman County Courthouse remains the oldest courthouse in the state.
The courthouse has been placed on the national registry of historic places and currently, a group in Jamestown is hoping to raise enough money to finish renovations to make it accessible to the public. President Mike Williams is aiming to get it re-opened, stating that the building is already in remarkable condition inside and out.
Mike Williams told Valley News Live that the courthouse was closed in 1981 and despite being vacant and unheated for so long, there is very little damage. The group is trying to raise at least $75,000 for electrical and plumbing work. To make a contribution, call 701-252-4520 or 701-320-4570.
