CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The final review of the plans for the first phase of permanent flood protection seems to please everyone on the Valley City Commission including Mayor Bob Werkhoven.
But resident Gary Schlegel didn’t agree with the strategy with the nearly $12 Million project.
City Commissioner Matt Pedersen believes the plan has answered a number of questions from the public and the commission.
Project manager KLJ engineer Erik Gilbertson says the first phase will feature permanent flood walls, clay dikes and removable flood walls.
Gilbertson says work directly on the Valley City State campus will be done in the summer to minimize congestion. He says weather permitting the project could be complete by the fall of 2015.
Pending final approval by the city commission bids for the estimated $12 Million project will be let this year.
