(NewsDakota.com) Sabrina Wolfe & Savanna Buskness Crowned Miss Carrington and Miss Dakota Country 2015.
Sabrina Wolfe, a senior at Carrington High School, was crowned Miss Carrington 2015 at the nineteenth annual scholarship pageant held Sunday, September 21, in the Carrington Elementary Gymnasium. She received an $800 scholarship as well as the High Score Interview Award ($100), the Munkeby Interview Award ($100), The Evening Gown Award ($100), the Ralston Hi Score Swimsuit/Fitness Award ($100), the KatieJo Gussiaas High School Scholar Award ($100) and the People’s Choice Award ($114).
Her platform issue is “Celiac Disease Awareness” and her talent presentation was an en pointe dance to, “Prituri Se Planinata”, by Stellamara featuring Nit Grit. She was sponsored by Dakota Central Telecommunications and is the daughter of Angie Wolfe & Dave Wolfe.
Savanna Buskness, a senior at Carrington High School, was crowned Miss Dakota Country 2015. She received an $800 scholarship as well as the High Score Evening Gown Award ($100)(a tie), and High Score Talent Award ($100).
Her platform issue is “Ambition For Nutrition and Busy Bodies” and her talent presentation was a lyrical dance to ”Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift. She was sponsored by her parents, and is the daughter of Robert & Karen Buskness.
Brittney Aasand, a senior at Carrington High School, was awarded a participation scholarship ($600) as well as the KatieJo Gussiaas High School Scholar Award ($100) (a tie) .
Her platform issue is “The Importance of Joining Extracurricular Activities” and her talent presentation was a vocal solo, “God Bless the USA” , by Lee Greenwood. She was sponsored by her Berntson Farms, Ready 2 Snap Photography and Dakota Central Telecommunications and is the daughter of Dean & Deedra Aasand..
Bailey Retzlaff, a senior at Carrington High School, was awarded a participation scholarship ($600). Her platform issue is “Cancer Awareness” and her talent presentation was a vocal solo, “Hallelujah”, from Shrek. She was sponsored by Swanson Seeds and is the daughter of Doug & Holly Retzlaff.
Heather Shimelfenig, a sophomore at Bismarck State College, was awarded a participation scholarship ($600) as well as the College Scholar Award ($100). Her platform issue is “Epilepsy Awareness” and her talent presentation was a piano solo, “Clocks”, by Coldplay. She was sponsored by Arrowwood Prairie Cooperative and is the daughter of Steve and Marlene Schimelfenig.
Over $4600 in scholarship dollars were awarded to the five contestants. These scholarships are provided by generous donations by area businesses and individuals. Close to seventy volunteers are involved in the program. See the “Thank You” ad in this issue of the Foster County Independent.
Miss Carrington and Miss Dakota Country will represent the city and region at the Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant in June. Their sponsorships will be provided by the Carrington Area Chamber of Commerce, the Carrington Convention and Visitors Bureau and Dakota Country Radio.
