N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The public will have an opportunity to learn from a professional counselor and expert on grief and loss tonight from 7pm to 9pm in Fargo at the Ramada Plaza & Suites during the Journeying Home Community Event sponsored by Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Counselor and author Douglas C. Smith presentation is called “Different Styles of Grieving, Different Ways of Healing.” He says his message of hope and healing will allow attendees to quietly reflect on their losses and honor their unique grief journeys.

Smith is the author of several books, including The Tao of Dying, Caregiving: Hospice-Proven Techniques For Healing Body And Soul, Being A Wounded Healer and The Complete Book Of Counseling The Dying And The Grieving. He also has much experiential knowledge in the fields of terminal illness and grieving.

Hospice of the Red River Valley brought Smith to Fargo as part of its 2014 Journeying Home Conference Community Event. The event is free and open to the public, and will take place at the Ramada Plaza & Suites, 1635 42nd St. S., Fargo, N.D.

Event organizer Wendy Tabor-Buth of Hospice of the Red River Valley is a grief specialist. She says on Wednesday, September 24 an all-day conference for professionals (nurses, social workers, counselors, chaplains, etc.) will be held from 8:45 a.m.-4 p.m.

Tabor-Buth says this conference focuses on spiritual and ethical concerns at end-of-life.
