CITY, N.D. (NewsDaktoa.com) In the shadow of the Hi-Line bridge the third ranked Wahpeton Huskies dominated their way to a 42-18 win over Valley City.
The loss drops the Hi-Liners to 2-2 overall. They are 0-2 in 2A East Region play.
The Hi-Liners scored on their opening possession when a 70 yard drive concluded with four yard touchdown run by Nate Rodriguez. That would be the last time the Valley City had the lead.
On the ensuing drive, the Huskies marched down the field scoring when ruining back Tyler Wholers forced his way in for a touchdown from the three yard line. From that point on the Huskies took control of the game. After stopping the Hi-Liners second drive, Wahpeton made their way back onto the scoreboard on a 1yard run by quarterback Carson Zarak to end the first quarter. As the game continued the Huskies play caller would rush into the endzone on three different occasions. If the hat trick of rushing touchdowns wasn’t enough, Zarak would find Blaze Irwin on two different occasions for passing touchdowns.
Hi-Liners returned to the endzone in the fourth for the first time since the opening drive when Lucas Jurry ushered the ball in on a six yard reverse. Hi-Liners would score once more on a 20 yard pass from Jared Lentz to Cody Halverson.
The Hi-Liners return to play next Friday when they take to the road for a match up with Maple Valley/Enderlin at 7pm. That game can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 6:30pm.
