CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota Winter Show had an economic impact of .2 million dollars in the community last year according to manager Dawn Riley.

During the annual meeting last night, Riley told friends and members of the North Dakota Winter Show foundation that a number of changes are underway including the addition of several events.

Riley says following the resignation of 8 women and the retirement of two others in the former Women’s Division, the shows and events will continue. She says the renamed event and will be headed by Beth Didier.

NDWS Foundation president Dave Massjo says an endowment fund was recently set up to help raise money to help cover future expenses.

Riley says one setback was a $249,921 repair associated with the roof of the event center.
Riley says the passing of Barn Manager Tom Wieland this year was heart breaking. She says “even though his employment with us was short, his hard work and commitment to the Winter Show will be everlasting.”

Riley says the future of the North Dakota Winter Show looks bright. She announced that Williams and Ree will be the featured entertainers during the upcoming North Star Classic December 4-7.

Riley says the estimated economic impact in the community from events listed in the next paragraph below is a conservative estimate.

North Dakota Winter Show $1.5 million, Wrangler Team Roping $30,000, April Bull riding event $50,000, May Horse Show $120,000, Mud Bug $10,000, September Horse Show $150,000, October Horse Show $90,000, High School Rodeo $135,000, November Bull Riding event $50,000 and the North Star Classic $135,000.

Other upcoming events include the North Dakota High School & Junior High Rodeos this weekend September 20-21.

October 11-12 the Great Midwest Horse Show.

November 21-22 Five Star Bucking Bull Finals.

December 4-7 North Star Classic

February 28 NDWS Kick-Off concert

And the 78th annual North Dakota Winter Show March 3-8 2015.
