CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The NAIA’s third ranked football team in the country looked right at home on the road Saturday night a Shelly Ellig field as Morningside College handed the Vikings their first loss of the 2014 season with a dominating 56-14 victory.

The loss drops the Vikings to 1-1 on the year.

Morningside’s Brandon Wegher started the scoring with a 4 yard touchdown run. He would find his way into the end zone four times and rush for 181 yards before exiting the game in the second half. The Mustang’s quarterback, Ryan Kasdorf, was just as effective for the visiting side hitting receivers for 250 yards and three touchdowns. While the Vikings defense struggled to keep the Mustangs out of the end zone VCSU’s offense had just as hard a time finding it.

Vikings quarterback Kurtis Walls threw two first half interceptions. The Vikings rushing game only managed 44 yards in the entire contest. Valley City would finally brake the plane of the end zone in the second half when Walls found Antoine Griffin in the back of the end zone on a 20 yard touchdown pass.

Walls would finish the game hitting 14 passes on 23 attempts for 117 yards and one touchdown. His backup, Josh Hansana played most of the fourth quarter running for one touchdown and passing for 106 yards.

The Vikings enter NSAA play on the road next week against Dakota State. That game can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 5:30pm
