(NewsDakota.com) For fourth year head coach Greg Dobitz of the Oakes High School Football team, Friday night commences yet another run through the ever-changing environment of “Friday Night Lights”.
The Tornadoes, who have been within striking distance of State Semifinal appearances in Class A football in two of the previous three years look very solid on paper heading into the 2014 campaign. Many talented players return; in particular at the quarterback position where Dobitz says Bryce Meehl is an impressive force under center.
Despite the high powered passing offense, and a salty defense, one facet of the game that has eluded as much success is the run game. Oakes’ offensive line averages 40 pounds more than last year, and Dobitz says it will take an all-around effort to have a more balanced offensive attack.
Oakes welcomes Britton-Hecla South Dakota to Cummings Field Friday night. Braves’ quarterback Rally Quesenberry will make his debut after blowing out his knee last year versus the Tornadoes. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with coverage on KDDR 1220-AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com at 6:30.
