N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liner cross country teams opened the season on a strong note Saturday morning taking 13th of 21 teams in the Boys race, 9th out of 19 teams in the girls race, and 3rd in the junior high girls race.
The boys team was led by senior Casey Engelhard who finished 22ned of 138 runners. Not to far behind him was teammate Nathan Johnson who captured 81st in the race. Mikey Meester and Joey Aus each broke the 25 minute mark coming in at 21:23 and 24:14 respectively.
In the girls varsity race, Mikaylah Ross led the Hi-Liners with a time of 16:46 which was good enough for 32nd over all. In her first race since an all state performance as a sophomore, senior April Berntson finished in 44th.
The strongest showing on the day belonged to the junior high girls team who placed third out of 17 teams in the event. The Hi-Liners top finisher in that race was Sharon Michael who captured 12th with a time of 13:18. In a near photo finish with her teammate Presley Curtis took 13th with the same time.
The Hi-Liners next race will be Friday, August 29th at 2:00pm at the Valley City Country Club.
