CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City Beautification Committee and employees of Pine Country Nursery planted trees and shrubs along Viking Drive earlier this summer.

The purpose of the planting was to provide the residential area screening from Tharaldson Field baseball complex parking area located west of the VCSU Fieldhouse. Long term benefits include enhanced street scape for the housing area and reduced noise from the baseball park and tailgaters at VCSU events.

The landscape contractor, Dan Preston, Pine Country Nursery planted a total of 23 trees including Prairie Expedition Elm, Deborah Norway Maple, Dakota Pinnacle Birch, and Japanese Tree Lilac as well as 6 Diablo Nine Bark that now grace Viking Drive.

The planting project received a $4,681 America the Beautiful Grant from the North Dakota Forest Service awarded to the Valley City Park District which was matched with $1,886 cash from Valley City Parks and Recreation and in-kind donations of $2,244.50 for material, equipment and labor donated by the Beautification Committee and Valley City Parks and Recreation.
