CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Sheyenne river south of Baldhill dam reached one of its lowest levels in years on August 12 due to dry conditions this summer along with the U-S Army Corps of Engineers outflow cutback of only 50 cubic feet per second.
The cutback was used to allow scientist to conduct a fresh water mussel survey in the river and perform gauge maintenance downstream.
The corps will ramp up outflows to around 1,200 cfs at Baldhill Dam northwest of Valley City on August 13. The Sheyenne River level will rise again after August 13.
Below are a few photos by Steve Urness taken on August 12 in Valley City near two separate low head dams within the city.
