Albert Sandness, son of Albert and Clara Sandness was born November 29, 1924 in rural LaMoure, North Dakota. He grew up and attended country school near Benson Corner and graduated from LaMoure High School. After service in the US Navy from 1944-1946, Claire was united in marriage to Barbara Potts on June 23, 1946 at High Prairie Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a grain and dairy farm near LaMoure where they lived for fifty years.

Claire served in many public capacities including six years in the North Dakota House of Representatives and eight years in the North Dakota Senate. Claire spent eleven years as Chairman of the Land O’Lakes Board of Directors in Minneapolis, and also served on the Executive Board of the National Milk Producers Federation in Washington DC. Claire served four years on the Northwestern Bell Telephone Board of Directors and three years on the US West Communications board in North Dakota.

Claire was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in LaMoure where he often conducted church services in the absence of the pastor there, and at many other area churches. Claire and Barbara moved into town in 1996, and entered the St. Rose Care Center in March 2013, where Claire passed on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at age 89. Barbara passed away October 19, 2013.

He is survived by four daughters, Susan (Robert) Klein, Sandra (Don) Klaksvik, Carol (John) Hamann, and Beth (Emory) Splitt; nine grandchildren, Matthew Kolstad, Nathan (Kristen) Kolman, Andrew Klein, Sarah (Gregg) Muehler, Mary (Colt) Violet, Michael Hamann, Jeffrey Hamann, Robbi Splitt, and Becca Splitt; seven great-grandchildren, Isaak Kolstad, Wesley and Brandon Papp, Dylan Kolman, Rachel, Jeffrey and Leah Muehler; sisters, Edna Oien and Irene Lere, brothers, Vernon Sandness and Albert Sandness Jr. and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, sisters, Muriel Tompt and Corinne Carlson, and brothers, Sig Sandness and Richard Sandness.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure. His funeral will be Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. also at Zoar Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at High Prairie Cemetery near LaMoure.
