(NewsDakota.com) – If you’re a team in this tournament trying to make a run as a lower seed, you liked what you saw Wednesday night from top-seeded Bismarck and second-seeded Grand Forks. Neither team was close to sharp as they survived their opening games. Bismarck held on to beat Fargo Post 400 by a final tally of 13-11. Grand Forks was able to hold down Jamestown 12-9, but committed six errors and gave up 10 free passes.
Jamestown Post 14 scored the games first two runs in the top of the first, but Grand Forks was quick to answer. In the bottom of the inning after Brian Wenzel handed out four walks, including a bases loaded free pass, Brandon Walters cleared the bases with a double.
Wenzel and Royals starter Brady Regimbal traded zeros for the next three innings, before Regimbal ran into some trouble. Jamestown put up a four spot in the fifth to regain the lead at 6-4, Nick Fuchs’ capped the inning by greeting Post 6 reliever Ryan Richardson with a two-run double.
After that blemish Richardson got out of the inning and allowed just three runs the rest of the way. His team backed up by scoring the next seven straight including a Regimbal three-run home run that flipped a 6-4 deficit into a 7-6 lead.
In the ninth, Post 14 had a chance with the tying run aboard and one out. Grand Forks manager Nick Chine stayed with Richardson and was rewarded with back-to-back strikeouts.
Jamestown will play at 2pm on Friday against the winner of Williston/Dickinson who play this afternoon. All the Post 14 games broadcast on 1400/97.1 ESPN Jamestown.
