N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several City Council committees met on Tuesday evening at the Jamestown City Hall.
Several discussions were held throughout the evening with health rates, affordable housing, and job descriptions for the city. The committees then turned their focus to fireworks. One suggestion from Councilman Steve Brubakken included allowing fireworks to be discharged from July 1st to July 4th from noon until 11:00 PM and allowed until 1:00 AM into the 5th of July.
Jamestown Resident Danielle Schmidt, who originally brought the city’s firework ordinance to the public eye, suggested that it be July 3rd to July 5th for fireworks to be allowed with times of 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM and 1:00 AM on the 5th. Audience members stated that if the council failed to reach a compromise, another petition might be coming forward to ban fireworks all together.
A motion was made to change the ordinance to use fireworks from July 1st through the 5th, but failed on a 2-2 vote with Mayor Katie Andersen and Councilman Dan Buchanan voting in opposition.
