Johnson, age 98, of Valley City died July 6, 2014 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday July 21, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the church and interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Arnes Benjamin Johnson was born April 15, 1916 near Marion, ND and attended school at Clark City School and Svee School and before taking courses in electrical and mechanics at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He worked on the family farm near Marion until 1953. He married Ruby Larson on June 10, 1951 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City. The couple farmed near Litchville until moving to Valley City in 1959. Arnes was employed by Petersen Oil from 1959 until 1963 and then took a job at the Peavey Elevator Feed Plant and worked there until retiring in 1978. Ruby died in 1999 . At the time of his death Arnes was a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center.
Arnes enjoyed woodworking and would build miniature horse drawn wagons and carriages he remembered from his childhood and also replicas of the buildings of the farm he grew up on. Other projects included birdhouses, shelves, and curio cabinets.
Arnes is survived by his daughters Susan Heidenreich, Fargo, ND, and Rose (Jim) Konrad, Plymouth, MN; a son Steve of Jamestown, ND; 4 grandchildren Ben (Pearl) Heidenreich in Virginia, Erin (Brett) Storhoff, Casselton, ND, Katy and Krista Konrad both of Plymouth, MN; 4 great grandchildren, Hunter, Sheyenne, and Colton Storhoff and Adrianna Heidenreich; a brother-in-law Archie Miller, Fergus Falls, MN and a sister-in-law Elizabeth Johnson Berge, Valley City, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby, a son Rodney; 5 sisters Alice, Lillian, Edith, Bernice, and Virginia; and a brother Bert.
