FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City had a number of softball teams representing the area at the North Dakota ASA State JO Fast Pitch Tournament this weekend. Two teams competed in the 14U division and one each in the 12U and 16U divisions.  

12U Results

In the 12U division, Valley City opened the day with a tough loss to Bismarck by a score of 15-1. They would have a strong showing in the days second game but again would find themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard, this time to Jamestown in a 12-5 contest. They wrap up the tournament Sunday against the Grand Forks Steam.

14U Results

In the 14U division, Valley City fielded two teams and both played well. Team one opened the day taking on Hillsboro/ Central Valley. The two teams would battle back and forth before Hillsboro took a 9-4 victory. In their second game, they would defeat Wahpeton before being eliminated by Jamestown in a 17-5 finish. 

Valley City Team 2 was daunted with the tough task of playing one of the tournaments top seeds, the Grand Forks Express, in the opening game. While Valley put up a valiant effort, it was the Express who prevailed 13-1. In the second game of the day, VC Team 2 made quick work of Lisbon with a 7-0 victory. The final game of the day would pit VC Team 2 against the same Jamestown team that had eliminated the Valley City team earlier in the day. In what was one of the closest finishes of the event, Jamestown would pick up the victory by a score of 11-10. VC Team 2 wraps up the tournament on Sunday morning against Hankinson.

16U Results

The final Valley City team participated in the 16U division. They also opened the tournament on a rough note, dropping the opening match to the Grand Forks Express 12-0.

Red Lake Falls would prove to be another tough opponent in the days second game as they topped Valley City in a 15-4 final.

Valley City rounds out the tournament today against Grafton.
