CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) Valley City Post 60 split games with Casselton on Tuesday night earning a 9-4 East Region win and falling in the non-league game by a score of 9-3.
In the region game Casselton jumped out to the early lead putting up two runs in the opening inning. Valley would answer in the bottom of the second plating two runs of their own. Just an inning later Jordan Magnuson put Post 60 out in front with a two run double. Valley would never again relinquish the lead.
Jesse Johnson earned the win for the home team pitching four innings and allowing just three runs on three hits. Austin Berg pitched the final three stanzas holding the Casselton batters at bay giving up no earned runs in the closing effort.
In the non-league game Casselton got their revenge on Valley City. Post 60 took the game’s first lead in the third inning when Jakob Miller scored on a Casselton error.
In the fourth inning momentum changed hands. Casselton posted four runs in the frame as they started to pull away from Valley City. Post 60 would respond with another run in the fourth, but in the fifth and final frame four more runs from Casselton would secure the victory for the visiting side.
The days split advances Valley City to 3-8 on the season. They return to the diamond on Friday night when they host Harvey at 5:30pm. That game can be heard on AM 1490, KOVC.
