N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Babe Ruth continued their winning ways Monday night earning a two victories by scores of 14-0 and 2-1 over Oakes.
In the opening district game, Valley City blew open the doors in the second inning sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs. Nate Rodriguez and Garret Suhr each tagged the home team for two RBIs in the inning.
Cole McGough picked up the complete game shutout pitching all five innings while allowing just two hits and whiffing 9 batters.
Head Coach Lance Lukes was pleased with this team’s performance saying, “This game could have been close to the most complete game we have played all year. From every aspect of the game we performed well and did a lot of the little executing that needs to be done.”
The district win advances Valley City to 10-1 in league play.
In the second game of the night, Valley found themselves behind early in the second inning by a score of 1-0. However, in the top of the fourth Valley City posted six runs taking back the lead and the win.
Oakes mustered just one hit on pitching core of Drew Jacobson, Tanner Thomsen and Brandon Pritchett. It was Thomsen who earned the win in the game pitching two innings in relief of Jacobson. He struck out three batters and allowed no runs or hits. Pritchett closed the game out.
The sweep of Oakes advances Valley City to 20-6 on the season, they return to the diamond tonight at Charlie Brown field against Edgeley at 5pm.
