N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A man has been charged with vehicular homicide for the traffic deaths of two sisters north of Hillsboro last month.
51- year-old James Yahnke of Nielsville, Minnesota was driving his girlfriend’s dodge challenger when the crash took place. The two sisters were passenger’s 21-year-old Teja Beyer of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota and 23-year-old Mercedes Rowley of Sharon, North Dakota. They were ejected when the car rolled. All three had been at a cookout with friends.
A state patrol crash reconstruction determined that Yahnke was going 94 miles-an-hour when he lost control of the car on a rough stretch of road. In reports filed with the charges, Yahnke said “apparently too much” when he was asked by a Traill county deputy how much he’d had to drink. He was also hurt in the wreck and was airlifted to Fargo. He’s still recovering and is not in custody.
