CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Babe Ruth team had a busy weekend splitting squads and heading to Enderlin for a two day tournament, and playing a district series with Linton on Friday evening.
Valley City vs Linton:
Valley City had a strong showing against Linton earning two district wins by scores of 11-0 and 11-1. In the opening game, Valley’s offense was led by Garret Suhr and Brandon Pritchett who each picked up three hits in the contest. Suhr also drove in a run.
On the mound Dawson Dietrich picked up the win going all seven innings allowing no runs, eight hits, and striking out seven batters.
In game two it was another offensive display for Valley who opened the game with seven runs in the first. They would add four more to the score board before the seventh inning came to a close. Once again, Suhr’s bat was one of the loudest at the dish going a perfect four for four in the game with two RBIs.
Nate Rodriguez pitched the entire second game for Valley City striking out 10, giving up one hit, and no earned runs.
Head Coach Lance Lukes spoke strongly of his team after the game saying, “ It was great getting two wins out of the trip. Dietrich and Rodriguez pitched great games for us and our offense produced today. Suhr had himself a day at the plate, he has made himself a tough out and is always putting together quality at bats for us.”
The back-to-back district wins over Linton lifts Valley City to a perfect 6-0 record in league play.
Enderlin Tournament:
Further down the road on Friday Valley’s second group was in action at the Enderlin Tournament. With just half the squad, Valley City struggled to get a win on the opening day falling in both games they played, 7-3 to Enderlin and 11-1 to Northern Cass.
On the second day Valley’s struggles continued but they would not last. Heading into the bottom of the fourth Valley trailed Lisbon by six runs. However, the VC offense would once again find its stride posting a seven run fourth to take back the lead.
In a relief effort, Drew Jacobson held off Lisbon in the top of the fifth earning the win for himself and his teammates.
After the big weekend, Valley City has a record of 13-5. They returns to the diamond on Tuesday when they travel to LaMoure for a 5pm start.
