CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Babe Ruth team swept Oakes on Monday night 16-2 in the district game and 12-0 in the non-league game.
In the opening contest, Valley got out to an early lead by scoring 11 runs in the first inning. Despite giving up two runs to Oakes in the top of the frame Valley’s defense would not relinquish another run in the game.
Cole McGough earned the win on the mound for VC allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters. He was also strong at the plate completing the day 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs. Justin Manson was equally impressive with a bat in his hands finishing the opening game 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Head coach Lance Lukes was happy with his team’s effort in the game saying, ‘it was great to see the boys come out and be aggressive early in the game. It has been a week since some of these guys had a played a game so I was a little nervous how they would come out.” No nerves now as the win advances Valley City to a perfect 2-0 record in the district.
In the non-district game, Valley would continue their dominance over their opponent opening game two with 9 runs in the first frame. Three more runs would come across in the bottom of the second helping Valley City end the night against Oakes in three innnings.
As a team Valley collected eight hits on their opponent. They were led at the plate by Braden Kohn who finished game two a perfect 3 for 3 with two triples and two RBIs.
The second victory of the day advanced Valley City to 5-2 overall on the season. VC returns to the field tonight in Edgeley for two games starting at 7pm.
